Working Title:
JESUSNESS TO GUILTLESSNESS
People are tormented by many “inner demons.” One such cruel “inner demon” is guilt or the accusation of guilt. Satan, who Revelation 12:10 calls “the accuser” stops at nothing to accuse us. Guilt bothers, disturbs, vexes, troubles and agitates people. It causes grave and untold misery and sufferings.
What is the relationship between people and guilt? People are conditioned by culture to be and to feel guilty. The religious, social and even legal culture of civilizations condition people to feel bad about themselves. Very especially, the religious. Mapapansing mas relihiyoso ang tao, mas laging maraming guilt, mas maraming pag-uusig, mas maraming dinaramdam. And pointedly, the so-called “people of the book” like Jews and Christians ay ganyan ---people who live verse-by-verse in the Scriptures of their tradition. Such people might as well be called, “people BY the book”: living by the book, by words, by legality, by technicalilty. Idagdag pa dito ang numberless and ominipresent doctrines developed out of the Ten Commandtments and 613 mitzvots. What about the additional traditions, regulations, policies, disciplinary rules of congregations developed post-Jesus, in the lasr two millenia? Napakabigat na dalahin ng mga relihiyosong tao ang sangkaterbang bawal na napakahirap naman, if not really impossible sundin. At kung nasusunod man ay paminsan-minsan lang dahil mahirap naman talagang sundin all the time.
Many people even feel guilty for not feeling guilty.
